Hôtel Château Bellevue

Notre patrimoine historique

The Hotel Château Bellevue at 16 rue de la Porte, in the heart of Old Québec City, is a historic establishment dating back to the end of the 19th century. It was founded on houses built in 1899 and 1900 and currently comprises street numbers 10, 12, 14, and 16. All were formerly connected with the Governor General’s private garden, today’s Governors’ Garden, which can be seen from many of the rooms.

Hôtel Château Bellevue

The architectural style, known as Tudor Gothic or Tudor Revival, is highly unusual in North America as these houses are made of stone rather than brick. A number of notable families lived in them over the years, including the original builders, the Peters family, and the Scott family, who lived there until 1964. The Honourable Auguste Tessier, an influential political figure, owned them from 1917 to 1938.

Hôtel Château Bellevue

Alain Girard acquired the properties in 1986 and converted them into today’s Hotel Château Bellevue, adding modern amenities such as the elevator. The hotel has since become an iconic place to stay, with its blend of rich history and contemporary amenities.
